Roberta Diamond explores the expressive possibilities of the human voice across centuries and styles. Her work spans early music, opera, contemporary composition and original song, bringing together her love of languages and colours and storytelling.
Originally trained as a soprano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Roberta now performs as a mezzo-soprano.
Roberta has appeared at festivals such as Laus Polyphoniae Antwerpen, MA Festival Brugge, Utrecht Oude Muziek Festival, the London Handel Festival, the Goan Festival of Sacred Music in India and the International Festival of Baroque Music in Bolivia, and performed at venues such as Wigmore Hall, the Cini Foundation in Venice and Luzern’s KKL.
Her recent opera roles include Miss Jessel (The Turn of The Screw), Dido (Dido & Aeneas), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Amore (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Galatea (Acis & Galatea), Proserpina (Orfeo), Amour (Platée), Melanto and Giunone (Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria), Jessie (Mahagonny Songspiel) and Giacinta (L’Orontea).
As a recording artist, Roberta appears on a disc exploring the origins of flamenco with Lux Musicae london, and has recorded for Hyperion Records. Her voice features on several film soundtracks and she has performed live on BBC Radio 3, SRF Kultur, Klara and ABC Classic, among others.
Roberta also writes and records her own songs, and collaborates with folk musicians from around the world. She particularly loves to sing in Arabic and Spanish, which she studied in her undergraduate degree.
